According to CPH, the 2017 Explanation presents a lens to faithfully understand God’s Word in the midst of changing times — providing a practical guide for living the daily Christian life. Concordia Seminary, St. Louis President Dr. Dale A. Meyer interviews concluding seminarian Paul Flo about his time in Germany as part of the 2016 Fellowship at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE). Flo was selected from 175 applicants to receive one of 12 FASPE fellowships that year and was the first student from Concordia Seminary to receive this distinction. The fellowship included a 12-day trip to Germany and Poland, including a visit to the site of the infamous Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp. Learn more about FASPE at FASPE.

In the first half of Word and Work: An Intersection, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis President Dr. Dale A. Meyer chats with Rev. Bob and Sarah Bernhardt in the middle of an art exhibition in the Seminary’s Kristine Kay Hasse Memorial Library. The exhibition, which was curated by Sarah, was part of the 2018 Theological Symposium. The three discuss Rev. Bernhardt’s ministry as pastor of youth and family at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo., and Sarah’s as the director of the Intersect Arts Center, which is housed at Holy Cross. The Bernhardts share how they are reaching out to youth and families in the neighborhood. In the second half of the program, Rev. Bernhardt’s chapel sermon from the Theological Symposium is shared.

In this episode of Word and Work: An Intersection, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis President Dr. Dale A. Meyer chats with Rev. David Lewis, assistant professor of Exegetical Theology, about a four-week Lay Bible Institute he led on campus in October 2018, “The Bible, Theology and Christ-Figures in Film.” The two men discuss how the American cinema has long “borrowed” narratives and themes from the Bible and Christian theology, often to tell its own unique stories. In this episode, Dale Meyer talks with Dr. Eric Knost, the superintendent of the Rockwood School District, the largest public school system in St. Louis County. With 33 school buildings and more than 20,000 children in the district, Knost works to create a sense of community and connectedness among his students and staff. Well-known for being a visible and approachable superintendent, Knost shares how his faith daily intersects with role as a servant-leader in the public sphere.

Over the course of the program, Burreson and Hoeltke discuss the role the physical body plays in life and death, the experience of dying and the nature of the new creation and our resurrected bodies.
