Description
In this 29th episode of “Mission Works: Thanks to Donors,” Concordia Seminary President Emeritus Dr. Dale A. Meyer, the program’s host, chats with Dr. Thomas Zelt, senior pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, Calif. Each summer Zelt leads a group of seminarians on a study-abroad course to Israel that is underwritten by Seminary donors. Zelt says the course allows students to be where biblical events happened so they might be able to teach those stories and events more effectively and with greater impact. The course “sets the biblical story in its geographic and its local and real context,” Zelt says. “The biblical events happened before the written Word happened. So it’s attempting to take the written Word and connect it up to the biblical places — the valleys, the hills, the cultural context in which those stories happened, and to bring them to life. It’s a very exciting opportunity to take seminarians and those who will be teaching the Word and connect it to places.” Mission Works is a weekly vlog that celebrates the significant role of Seminary supporters and highlights how donor gifts are making a difference in the Lord’s mission.
