Description

What’s the relevance of the Nicene Creed today? In 1,700 years a lot has changed. A Roman empire over the Mediterranean has collapsed. Global empires over the internet have risen. Daily tools of iron and metal have been replaced with tools of circuits and glass. Artificial intelligence has emerged. How can this dusty old document with words like “only-begotten” and “being of one substance” meet the world today — let alone address it? And even if it can, what can it do that power and politics, money and economics, science and psychology can’t? The question behind these questions is: What’s the relevance of the Gospel in a dying world? Is it an ethic to fix our bad behaviors? A technique to solve our problems? An algorithm to give us answers? What does the gospel do? What does the Gospel give us? What’s the relevance of the Nicene Creed? It proclaims the Gospel, where true joys are found — whether in the midst of freedom or slavery, honor or dishonor, life or death.
