Description
Ever since the eclipse of the biblical narrative in modern theology, Christians have struggled to interpret the life of Christ in a meaningful way. The church has been forced to conclude that the significance of Christ’s life is simply the historicity. While the historical facts of the story are worth affirming, we cannot help but feel deprived of deeper meaning. This session will use Irenaeus of Lyon’s interpretations of the life of Christ to imbue our own theology of the life of Jesus Christ with life-giving significance. Through the Lutheran category of the active obedience of Christ, we see how understanding Christ’s life for us deepens our appreciation of the Gospel narratives.
