Abstract
The purpose of this paper, then, is to investigate the nature, functions, and objectives of literature; to explore and delineate its congruencies with and contradictions of the nature, functions, and objectives of Lutheran catechetics; and finally to assess its value for the catechetical enterprise and determine whether it warrants the construction of a literature-oriented program of catechetics within The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.
