Abstract
We have all heard of the various Orders in the Catholic Church such as the Benedictines, Franciscans, Dominicans, Society of Jesus, Knight Templars and Knights Hospitalers. How and why did they originate? What brought them into existence? These questions we will take up in this paper, showing the needs of the times which were met or were supposed to be met through the Monastic Orders we have just mentioned.
