Abstract
In the book of Matthew, the evangelist describes various phenomena that accompanied Jesus' death. Darkness blotted out the sun, the earth shook, the temple curtain tore, and dead people were raised to life. This thesis will present Matthew's theological meaning of the resurrections (Matt 27:51 b-53) by analyzing the Sitz im Leben of the first century world.
