Abstract

In the thirteen Epistles written by the Apostle St. Paul we find no comprehensive treatment of prayer. He has not, for example, dealt with prayer as he has with the doctrines of justification, sanctification, or the Church. Yet his Epistles contain many references to prayer and are steeped in its practice. Prayers in connection with the teachings which he sets forth are interspersed through his writings. He often mentions prayers which he has already offered, and frequently admonishes the Christians to be fervent and faithful in the practice of prayer. This thesis will endeavor to show the pastor's need of prayer as this is reflected in the writings of St. Paul, and in incidents from his life recorded in the Book of Acts.
