Abstract
The inception or Mormonism took place in 1830, when on the 6th of April of that year Joseph Smith Jr. organized the “Church of Jesus Christ or the Latter Day Saints" at Fayette, Seneca County, New York. In November of the same year Sidney Rigdon, a preacher of the Reformed Baptists or Campbellites at Mentor, Ohio, joined the new sect with the majority of his congregation. Since the West seemed to the Mormons to be the land of their future destiny, Smith and his followers moved in that direction and settled at Kirtland, Ohio. This took place in the year of 1831.
