Abstract

One of the devices which preachers throughout the centuries have employed to bring their message to the hearts of the people more clearly and forcefully is Illustration. Christ used illustrations. Paul used illustrations, Cbrysotom, Augustin, and Luther used illustrations, and so do the great preachers of today. We, too, in our preaching should use illustrations. We should use them as effectively as possible. It is the purpose of this paper to present the principals involved in the effective use of illustrations in Christian preaching and to show how these principles are to be applied.
