Abstract
The minutes of the first session of the Fourth Free Conference contain this sentence:
''The meeting expressed its heartfelt sorrow because Professor Walther, who gave the first impetus towards the calling of free conferences and through whom God Himself caused so many blessings to be add~d to the conferences, was prevented this time by a severe throat illness from participating in the transactions of the conference."
