Abstract
The question to be discussed is not, Is the Word of God effective? The Word of God has divine power in itself, which we can neither take away nor to which we can add. However, the sorry thing that we can do ls to hinder the Holy Spirit from exerting His divine power through the Word. From this viewpoint the question under discussion will be considered. Therefore, the shrewd Scotch woman who was asked to give her view concerning the power of the pulpit was not wrong when she said, '"That depends on wha's in it"
In discussing the question concerning the effectiveness of preaching, consideration must be given to the preachers attitude towards his sermon work, the contents of the sermon, the sermon structure, and the delivery.
