Abstract

This thesis demonstrates the extent to which German Hymnody, from its beginnings to the mid-eighteenth century, forms a part of the hymnic worship material used in the Protestant churches of today. Twelve representative present-day hymnals were examined to enumerate the texts as well as the tunes from the German tradition which were to be found in them.
