Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to give the history of the development of the monastery of Cluny with special emphasis on the development of the Cluniacs as an Order. For that reason .the paper will not cover the entire fie1d of Cluniac history and influence. To give a complete study of the topic would involve a study of fields beyond the scope and purpose of the present work. The author would propose other phases that would prove quite fruitful for further work.
